just the beginning
After 10 months of tireless saving, planning, and day dreaming our hard work has paid off and we are on our way to our first destination - Japan. Preparing for this journey was no small feat; and packing was the source of my anxieties. After numerous nightmares of forgetting my shoes or not having enough contacts I curated my packing list and zipped up my two bags heading to the airport.
After our 12 hour flight, we arrived in Tokyo on a rainy afternoon. Getting our bags together we began navigating the transit and took an hour train ride to our hostel in Asakusa. Turns out I still packed too much, but that’s okay because it’s better to be prepared, or at least that’s what I keep telling myself. Selflessly Tristan switched bags with me because I could barely lift my pack off the floor while getting on the train. But that’s a problem for later me because hunger quickly took over as we arrived to the hostel.
We quickly put our stuff down to grab dinner nearby, having some delicious and adventurous skewered meat we couldn’t keep our eyes open and headed to bed around 9:00pm. But not before taking advantage of our hostel’s onsen. I seriously felt like I was at a spa at our $30/night hostel, fully equipped with a sauna and bath.
All in all it was a wonderful first couple over hours being halfway across the world and we can’t wait for all that is to come. Tristan keeps reminding me to take it one day at a time, staying in the moment. 6 months seems overwhelming, but it’s also going to fly by.
さよなら,
